Dear CEO Morgan,

I would like to take this opportunity to further emphasize the Hispanic Roundtable’s concerns and recommendations regarding the potential impact of school mergers and closures on Latino students, families, and educators within CMSD.

As reflected in our December 10 submission presented at the CMSD Board Business Meeting, the purpose of our communication is to ensure that Latino students and families are not disproportionately impacted and that their voices remain centered in decision-making during this critical period for the District.

As CMSD continues evaluating restructuring options, we respectfully request additional clarity regarding how the District is assessing and monitoring the specific impact on Latino students and families. In particular, we believe it is critically important to preserve bilingual staff, language access, culturally responsive communication, and educational continuity for Spanish-speaking families and English Language Learners.

We also respectfully request transparency regarding the data being used to guide these decisions, including impacts disaggregated by race/ethnicity, language status, and neighborhood. Public access to this information is essential to building trust and ensuring equitable outcomes.

More specifically, we would welcome further discussion regarding the following questions:

• How is CMSD assessing and monitoring the impact of these decisions on Latino students specifically?

• Will CMSD publicly share impact data disaggregated by race/ethnicity, language status, and neighborhood related to these proposed cuts and consolidations?

• How do these decisions align with a long-term strategy for equity and inclusion for Latino students, particularly as the Latino population in Cleveland continues to grow?

• What investments and safeguards will be implemented to ensure Latino students are not simply maintained, but intentionally supported, empowered, and positioned for long-term academic success?

• How will CMSD ensure the preservation of bilingual staffing, language access, and culturally responsive engagement throughout this transition process?

The Hispanic Roundtable stands ready to work collaboratively with CMSD leadership, administration, educators, and community stakeholders to help identify constructive solutions that protect educational opportunity while supporting the District’s long-term goals.

We appreciate your leadership during this challenging time and look forward to continued dialogue and partnership.

Respectfully,

José C. Feliciano, Sr.
Chairman
